Question tendonitis in elbow and wrist

First thread i've ever submitted..!!! here's the deal....i had been suffering with tendonitis in my right elbow for a few months....forearms are always sore from strain...(i live with that).....then i noticed, about three months ago, that the soreness was lessening in my elbow and had jumped also to my wrist.....the wrist pain was enough to stop all my physical activity with right arm....thumb was locked and really hurt when i tried to extend it...sort of like when you catch a football and it bends your thumb back too far. the four other fingers were fine....i have been going to a chiropractor for about 2 months now and am now starting to get some relief.... Has anyone experienced this? and does anyone have any advice as to how to soothe these inflamed tendons? thanks, herbie

Re: tendonitis in elbow and wrist

Hi
Yes I think I have this in my wrist it feels like a sprain and when I catch it wrongly on something it really aches . Im finding it harder to do dumbell exercises and curls as the wrist is weaker . I went to my doctor who sent me straight to the hospital where they thought my scafoid bone was broken , they x-rayed it and said " no it isn't " and kind of left me to it . The only relief I get painwise is from ibuprofen ( which I dont like taking long term ) and they have one of those power plates down our gym that has helped alot . My worst time is waking in the morning it aches like mad and when I roll the wrist around it's very " clicky " . Guess there is nothing much to help other than ice and complete rest

Cheers
Mak

Re: tendonitis in elbow and wrist

i get a lot of pain in my left hand wrist. i find it amazingly hard to use dumbells in any sort of exercise at all. lunges with dumbells make my forearm burn to the point where i seriously just think about giving up the exercise. however the most pain ive felt has to be deadlifts. i get stupid amounts of pain in my wrist. never thought it could be this tho. im gonna go google it. see what i can find.

Re: tendonitis in elbow and wrist

last year had bout of elbow tendonitis-traced it back to heavy preacher and heavy weighted chins-eliminated pain by stopping doing arms-and bodyweight only chins for few months, building up weight slowly again -but not doing biceps,as getting stimulated on back training

Re: tendonitis in elbow and wrist

my doc said to minimise any use of the affected joint... my left arm is affected at the elbow. taken just over 2 months for it so lessen in pain. it isn't gone yet. not by a long shot but it is getting better.

the only other option is cortizone injections...

Re: tendonitis in elbow and wrist

slamdog,,,,
i have searched the net and it seems that all agree not to take use cortisone injections....helps for a short time then causes lasting damage to the joint.....my chiropractor says that the tendon tissue is swollen and damaged from over use while it is already injured....as the body trys to heal itself, repairs begin to take place but the repairs are formed in a kind of random criss cross pattern and adhears to surrounding tissue...this is not good.....tendon tissue has to be straight in nature running in the direction of the muscle....therefore when you use it again you begin to tear the tissue which has adheared to the surrounding area....causing more pain and swelling... each week my dr. has to break loose this tissue and allow only the straight tendon tissue to remain..... takes a long time, but it seems to be working....
i dont know if my explaination makes any sense!!!! but there it is...

Re: tendonitis in elbow and wrist

makes a lot of sense...

I really don't want the cortisone after reading up on it... i have heard better things about nandrolone for joint problems... but i doubt if my doc would ever consider that option!

Re: tendonitis in elbow and wrist

Try Cissus, excellent for tendon related problems, do a search I have written about it here before.

Re: tendonitis in elbow and wrist

Have had similer problems with wrists over the years.
Once pain sets in difficult to do shoulder exercises such as latural raises heavy curls ect.
Tried different supplements for joints but the most effective thing I found is using wrist supports and training light until injury heals.

Re: tendonitis in elbow and wrist

My right elbow has been messed up for the last 3 months or so really painful - I then stopped doing, French Curls and close grip bench press for triceps, pullover for chest and shoulder pressing and wore an elbow support for all exercises in which strain was going on the elbow. Now its getting slightly better but I am still avoiding french curls and pullovers and am only doing close grip bench and shoulder pressing with light weights. It was either that or take 2-3 months out of the gym in total - something I wasnt prepared to do.

Re: tendonitis in elbow and wrist

im no physio or chiro or anything but i tell this to any clients with tendonitis - lift lighter (not light, but lighter), high reps, and focus on lower body till the pain completely fades. tendonitis is a pain in the **** to get rid of and nothing works better than natural healing. could try anti-inflammatories?

Re: tendonitis in elbow and wrist

im in for courtisone 9 am tomorrow bit hit or miss not always bad. it can work and never come back as in my mate so thats proven, or can hide it then creep back or miss it all together no help at all

if it gets it right its not always that it creeps back sometimes your confidence comes back to quick there for pushing hard on the things that did it in the 1st place

im doing 10 days total rest after courtisone and fingers crossed!tennis elbow SUCKS!

Re: tendonitis in elbow and wrist

i've damaged my rotator cuff on the same arm as the tendonitis... i'm definately resting things!

Have an appointment with the physio at the hospital in the morning... i'll see what they say.
