Very very nice big. I agree with this type of training.
I train HIT myself as most on the board know. I have a journal that has been down for me to add more coments to.(Lorian?)
I do 6 sets for chest 3 are work sets. If I warm up well and get a personal best why would I do another set if it will be short? Why not save the energy for the next excercise. I train to failure on everything I do. When I hit a platou I try a new excercise.
I train heavy with compound movements and I stay in the 6-12 rep range. One time I will do reps, next time I will do db's, next time I might do bar, get the idea? I want to be strong in everything, not just bench press.

Basically training to failure is fine a switch of sorts but it is only one of the three training mechanisms we use in modern science to acheive growth and strength. it also limits returns afterawhile like anything. So combining the three methods together in a way that they can tell you when they need adaptriove change works best, thats what I designed in my system. It is one way that works and in MHO only.

training, like nutrition isn't a guess and the, it feels good, stufff is only a guess. Its the reason the indutsry is limited with results. people guess. What makes HIT so appealing is it isn't a guess, yeah it only uses one method but it works and it tells you when to progress. the problem is people try to bend even it by saying this or that doesn't feel right for their body ad they screw it up.

Results are what matter. its that simple. Even if its a trickle result you will get there. but those who keep talking about their results and guessing never get there (these are the ones who compensate with massive amounts of drugs and crap like that)

To understand the sales approach the companies, magazines and supplement guys take lets use the cigarette paradox... (this is borrowed from Rick Tew a fellow martial artist from my Ryu)

"Hey guys, we have a problem."
"Oh yeah, what's that?"
"Our product stinks, is addictive and kills people."
"Don't worry, people are stupid. We will just condition them to link cigarrette smoking to the things they like most."

the result is that people will follow it no matter if it works or not because of the association aka gear=big muscles certain supps=ripped abs failed training=what my body needs and on and on. If it produces results, refine it, if it doesn't, drop it.
so basically what your saying, is that magazines and that put out so many different ways to train, which is all guess work, People gain for a little then stop, and wonder why they arent gaining so invest in some bodybuilding products like they have seen in the magazines, its all just a ploy to keep people buying? lol i probably havent worded that too well but if its true its kinda disgusting that people are so hell bent on making money that they are quite happy to steer people away from the goals/dreams.

Yes Cap its true, I've been in the industry and working for many of those magazines 9as well as my friends) for many years. Its almost all one giant scam and will always be that way.

One magazine does hold pretty true,
Milo over at Ironmind.

Its rare you will ever see someone doing something radically different from the center line and winning in sports like weightlifting or powerlifting, very rare this point out that their is ONE ideal for all as a center line (with some very very small differences) In olympic sports like weightlifting its no longer a guess, its a formula. But even then they always publish bs stuff to try and throw the competition. Its called business.

I publish what I do as a center line, the littel adjusting secrets... no way, that where I make my living money.

Actually it would not be in the right direction, it would only be my direction and since I'm following it must be someone elses direction but they refuse to stop and ask directions so... I think we are lost.

I.M.H.O.

I'm starting to feel like its all coming out the wrong way (or so people are telling me lately, again). I'm not really providing much new information on anything (maybe a new way of wording it all), just a different opinion, but the way I express that opinion is stepping on some toes(or many peoples toes). The last several e-mails from people show me my direction I have been taking (even when I say "this is what I do, don;t beleive it blindly, try it to decide for yourself") must be further agianst the grain of publically accepted bull****e than I thought, as it ****ed some off big time. Oh well, maybe its time people stopped beleiving in the publishing fairies afterall eh?

Excellent advice big, enjoyed reading all that

when i started (which seems a long long time ago now might i add) i was doing 14-16 sets per major muscle group and 8 minor muscle group. Typical starter routine, and went absoloutly nowhere in about 5 months (the time you really should be gaining). Serious overtraining. Undertraining is so much more effective than overtraining. Try it for 2 months and see.

yes big thanks for the advice. I agree it is better to do less than overtrain. As long as there is progressive overload then there must be something good happening. Cheers

I stopped reading the big name magazines quite a while ago, there was just so much advertising in there (Mens health, MUscle and fitness, Flex) and they were meant to repeat their articles each year too. I think what might be p*ssing off a few people, and this is just my opinion, is that they have been training a certain way for so long, and then you have come along ( lol thats not a bad thing) and Training, diet and nutrition has all at least to me, been turned on its head, might be difficult for a few others to accept you know what i mean? Like i said none of the methods you are stating work are bad, they are just different and have worked for you, And everyone can see clearly that they are getting results from your methods also, so it might possibly be jealousy too. If it is Jealousy just means your doin a good job dont it!
