![]() | looking for a decent trainer - warwickshrie / oxon I am a 27 year old guy looking for a decent trainer. I live in Warwickshire close to Stratford upon Avon, Banbury and Leamington spa. I have trained in the past but never really knew what I was doing. I think a personal trainer would be good as I have real motivation issues and always need to be pushed to achieve my goals. I am about 5'6" tall and in the last 2 years have fluctuated between 12.5 stone and 14.5 stone. At the moment I am about 13.5 stone and very weak (can only bench about 60kg). My main goal is out and out strength, increasing muscle size and pushing my body to the very limit. I am also a vegetarian and looking to go vegan, so need somebody that is understanding of this diet. So if any of you guys know anyone I would be very grateful. Adam |

Many will be able to be the jack of alltrades to a minimal level but your spectrum is quite narrow Here are my thoughts: Diet = no need to pay for that, plenty of sample diets kicking around the new for meat dodgers Form and technique = http://www.exrx.net/Exercise.html and similar sites with seasoned trainers aiding a little bit in your gym Training Plans = loads kicking around here and nothing a PT will better unless they are very very special Motivation = with all due respect 'horse to water and all that' I am firm believer in the days of PTing to be over for this sector of the market and i firmly believe PTs are more suited to recreational trainers and elite athletes Everything in the middle is down to reading and instrinsic desire, not a clipboard, stop watch and drill officer you pay £30+ an hour for

I personally would have no problem going vegi as long as I could still eat eggs, fish etc. In fact the only meat I eat is 200g of chicken every day and to be honest I have to force that down sometimes. I used to eat a lot of meat but not feel better not eating it. It wasn't a concious decision just something that evolved. I think going totally vegan may conflict with your training goals.

![]() | Re: looking for a decent trainer - warwickshrie / oxon I think you may be right about a good training partner, but find it difficult to find anyone on my level. I think it would be really good if there was a website specially for finding compatible training partners. I have to admit my biggest downfall is I struggle with motivation, and often need a good kick up the ****! A few years ago I had a personal trainer for a couple of weeks, but I had to give it up as I moved out the area because of work. During that short time I really felt I made massive advances in terms of motivation. I went to the gym for the first time in years yesterday, but I struggled to put the work in. I was only managing to bench a very disappointing 60kg x 12, but know I could go a lot heavier with a good kick up the ****! With regards to saying you think a vegan diet may conflict with my training goals. I googled vegan body building and came across the following two sites. I know many of the people shown aren’t the biggest body builders in the world, but many people would agree that they have had good results. There was one guy (can’t remember name) I saw on the net a few years ago who was vegan and he looked absolutely huge. http://www.veganbodybuilding.org/main.htm http://www.veganbodybuilding.com/?page=galleries |

Thos who sit outside the mainstream gym members who cant be bothered yet sit below elite athletes people like us guys who read a lot in our spare time, those who are members of forums, those who subscribe to web sites with good solid information The days of clueless weight trainers is over and I firmly believe trainers can aid those who dont study outside the gym and those who are elite athletes

![]() | Re: looking for a decent trainer - warwickshrie / oxon Well when I went to the gym I asked around for a training partner but most people are already fixed up. Everyone I could see was either way above my standard, or training for different goals (CV work etc) The only other people on the weights were a few 18 /19 year old who were lifting very low weights. I think a good training partner would be someone who was slightly stronger than me, with similar goals and not in a totally different league. Just out of interest how did you guys meet a suitable training partner? None of my friends are that interested in weight training as they would rather go down the pub every night and eat in the chippy! |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: looking for a decent trainer - warwickshrie / oxon OK How about googling or asking for a gym where enthusiasts train. The gym i used to go to had 1-2 real enthusiast, i trained in my gagareg as a resuly YET just down the road is a very good gym full of 'real trainers' (for want of a better phrase) who are more than willing to embrace you and its not always about having a full time training partner, often just jump in with some of the guys or ask for a spot. If you go to a 'real gym' people love helping and the egos are left at the door. Large commercial gyms are often not the place to find potneital training partners or maybe alter your apporach to talking to them as some maybe put off by the direct appraoch. If you join a gym where enthusiasts go i assure you someone will be able to help and even if that costs an additional 30-35 quid month so be it, thats far less than a personal trainer will charge you per month and with the quality of PTs these days i would try going solo to begin with
