Cardio before breakfast

Is it best to do cardio a couple of hours after a meal or before breakfast?

I lost a lot of bodyfat by doing my cardio before breakfast, but lost a lot of precious muscle too. Just a bit weary of putting my body into a catabolic state after not eating for 4 hours, waking up and doing cardio.

What is recommended to retain as much muscle as possible ?

I am bulking so I only want the cardio for general fitness and to control bodyfat levels.

Re: Cardio before breakfast

Personally if you are not looking to lose weight I'd do cardio after work on your off days. Also if you decide to do it this way you'll be able to up the intensity a little more.

If you do decide to do it in the morning keep the intensity low, you can even gob down some bcaas before if you have some.
