Why not make your own out of wood or use washers.

APT wrist straps, $40 ish for a set of 4 (8 Plates), UK rips the @rse out of things.

Each one is just over 1kg, and you can attach them anywhere you like. There's also a version that's ½kg each.

when you had stuff imported from APT did you have to pay any import / handling / customs clearance fees?

I think I did on my last order, about a year ago, but none before that, still works out loads cheaper.
