Can I train again in the evening as I missed my shoulder routine this morning?

This morning I had just finished my 4 sets of back excercises and was about to move on to my shoulder excercises when all of a sudden I started feeling faint. So my question is... can I go back and train my shoulders at around 5pm as I trained my back this morning at 10am? My break is tomorrow and I have arms the day after so I assume it wont be good training shoulders tomorrow if I have arms the next day. What do you guys think?

Cheers guys much appreciated. I thought maybe I'd be exhausted or go into over-training mode if I did am/pm training like that

No - quite the contary actualy.

Think about it. you have split your normal workout in 2 (acording to bodypart)

your not makeing any changes to the workout except that there performed in two seperate groups.

Now maby you can recall a time when half way through your workout your fell unmotivated or tired and didnt give 100% to the last bodypart in the day.

When you split the workout what your doing is giveing yourself 2 chances to recover. - Think of the rest and extra meals and water you can get in between the AM/PM sessions your be much much better prepared than just the one session.

I`m gonna disagree with wogi here and say that lifting twice a day is generally a bad idea imho...

unless your a pro you shouldn`t think about lifting twice a day. I thought the whys are quite obvious. namely intensity+/ overtraining issues.

Re: Can I train again in the evening as I missed my shoulder routine this morning?

Wogihao's concept seems real clear and makes sense to me. Its two seperate body parts, so I cant be over-training if I'm not training the same muscle twice in a day. Especially as I'm not making it a constant habit.

Off to the gym soon

you can overtrain without training the same muscle.

So say Guy A & B do this workout...

Chest:
Barbell bench flat 5 x 10-6
barbell Incline bench 5 x 10-6
flys 5 x 10
pulloveres 3 x 10

Triceps:

Close grip bench 3 x 10-6
skull crushers 3 x 10-6
Pressdowns 3 x 10-6

Ok now these are all work sets.

Now Guy A does this whole sesion in one go it takes about 1.5 hours with rest. he has one pre workout drink and post work out shake.

his body has 1 chance to get the nutrents to the muscle groups like this.

However guy B does this

Guy B wakes up, has a good breakfast then after a while he has a pre workout drink

then does

Chest:
Barbell bench flat 5 x 10-6
barbell Incline bench 5 x 10-6
flys 5 x 10
pulloveres 3 x 10

Notice this is the same work as guy A did for chest, but because he knows this is all he has to do in the AM he goes mental balls to the walls. Now all that energy from the pre workout shake is devoted to chest and so is his post work out drink.

Now idealy or man now goes back home has another meal and gets a nap
this enhances his recover and nutrent uptake.

Now in the PM he does Triceps

He takes his pre workout drink again - all that energy for just the triceps now...

Triceps:

Close grip bench 3 x 10-6
skull crushers 3 x 10-6
Pressdowns 3 x 10-6

The guy is totaly motivated and fresh, he has a blinding session and the guys in the gym worship him like a god.

after he gets a post workout shake and another meal.

rest repeat.

Why would this not work?

I dont understand your getting 2x the amound of nutrents into the body that way, more sucesfull lifting and more mental focus in the session. Your also getting more recover time in because that nap that our man took helps in the recovery from the first session.

Its one of the things you realy should give a chance before you write it off as ****.

To be honest very few of the people that are training in gyms today are overtraining - the body can take a masive amount of punishment it was designed to do that. I would rather point to the fact that the majoirty of people are undertraining and thats the true reasion for lack of progress coupled with a poor diet and poor rest recovery cycle this results in no progress.

yeah, sounds good in theory. but if you eat right you will have all the energy you need with your glycogen stores full. You can eat 2x 3x 4x the amount of food it won`t make any difference (in a positive way). More mental focus? You don`t need to to lift twice a day to be 100% focused in the gym? More succesfull lifting? Just your personal idea.
