Deadlift question

When I do deads my legs are generally kept straight - and I feel it in both hams and lower back. Is this normal? I always thought that SLDL was more for hams and bent leg for back. :confused:

Re: Deadlift question

Deads are a compound move mate, you are gonna feel them everywhere. I would be more worried if you didn't feel them in your lower back and hams

Straight legs are gonna hit your hams MORE, but bent they will still be used in the movement.

Cheers MT, I like doing SLDL so it's good to know that it's a good all-round exercise. TBH that's what I thought but just wanted to make sure.

Doing DL off the floor with straight legs is not the best idea TBH.

Why can you not do them normally?

Have you tried a Sumo stance?

I don't pick the bar up off the floor with straight legs, nor do I let the bar touch the floor with straight legs. Not tried them "normally" - not that I can remember, anyway . And not tried the sumo stance.

I see, as long as you keep and arch in your lower back then they are fine, but will target the hams and glutes more than conventional DL if done correctly.

I've had problems with my lower back in the past (trampolining accident) so when doing deads I'm extra careful. TBH because I've really only ever done SLDL I'm not even sure what "normal" DL stance is! LOL

Sounds like your doing it fine mate whenever i go max on deadlifts my legs always lock out way early and i end up dragging it up all back.....perhaps not the best way but i can pull a fair bit and my back has always been my best body part.
