Pull-ups/Lat Pull-downs

Hate pull-ups so I do lat-pulldowns.
The cable pulldowns are brilliant, but the machines are crap. A mate prefers machine. He's 6'5, I'm 5'10. What else can I do that works the same muscles but isnt either of these 3? Will carry on doing cable pulldowns but I need a bit of variety.

Re: Pull-ups/Lat Pull-downs

Bad news... you must do them. It's the law.

Both great for width.

Tell your mate to do one while you go on the cable lat pulldown.

Assuming you are doing deadlifts already yes?

Re: Pull-ups/Lat Pull-downs

Yeh, stiff leg with dumbells and usual with barbell. Think I made first post a bit confusing, by cable pull downs I mean the cable machine. By machine I mean some dodgy looking thing that you have to reach up on and strap yourself to the seat. Looking like your flapping when you use it.

Re: Pull-ups/Lat Pull-downs

Good lord stop running away from exercises that are hard those are the very exercises you should be doing!
Chin ups with a just out side shoulder width palms facing away from the body grip.
Followed by
Deadlifts with a barbell
=back

Re: Pull-ups/Lat Pull-downs

i always warm up by doing 3 sets of 8reps of chins then move straight to the the lat pull downs. lats are such a big muscle and imo it would be best to train them hard like chest or any other body part

i like chins and lat pulldowns. I find close underhand grip on the pulldowns hit lats hard.

Re: Pull-ups/Lat Pull-downs

mate - if you hate them so much do them first in your routine. I am not particularly fond of them but I find that if I do them first then they are done and dusted quickly.

Agree with the others go for the hard exercises... if they dont kill ya then you will grow... but just a word... why stiff leg deads? for back I would just stick with normal deads on a barbell, heavy with good form... jmho...

Yup ^^^ Stiff Leg Deads are primarily a leg exercise

I wouldn't ever really do Chins before deads though. Doesn't really make too much sense IMHO - "I can do 8 chins" doesn't sound as good as "I can deadlift 200kgs"

We like doing the things we're good at.

Moral of the story- get good at the tough exercises by doing them.
