Calves

I've started training legs properlly now, quads and hams are coming along nicely but calves seem to be laggin.. I want them shaped up for my holiday in 7 weeks... I currently do 3 sets on the leg press just bouncing the weight and then I do 3 sets of calf raises on the smith machine. I need a gym with a good seaqt calf raise machine! Any good routines for getting them to grow? Reps/Sets? I know this has been posted before but I want some fresh info on the topic...

they need done at least twice a week

heavy weight low reps one day then moderate weight with higher reps on the second day, just to cover all bases.

I train my calfs for 15 mins once a week, I could prob do them twice a week but its being ar5ed to do so. Theyre growing ok at the moment.

Its obviously different for different poeple - try a variety of methods and see which you respond most.

Luke.... as a substitue for the seated calf raise machine sit on a bench under the smith machine bar (sit so that the bar rests a couple of inches back from your knees). Take two of the plastic base plates from the aerobic steppers most gyms have lying around and use these as the toes plates (the same as if you were using the standling calf raise machine so that you can give a full stretch to the calf). Now load up the smith machine bar and hey ho you've got your seated calf raise. Im loading it up with some pretty heavy weight so warn that you might want to wrap a towel around the bar to save your skin!

No need to lower the tone Cap you ugly little munter! I'll get my misses to climb on my back but she's so light! I started doing seated raises and I felt a great pump in the whole of my calves! They're gradually getting bigger I just need to be consistant with them as I lagged on legs before.. My legs are deffo growing! I'll post pics of them at the end of august after my holiday! Looking forward to having some good sized legs! ;)

try this one mate
pick a calf exercise this works best with seated or standing calf raise but leg press raise will do....

20 reps
10sec rest
20 reps
10sec rest
20 reps
10sec rest
15 reps
5 sec rest
15 reps
5 sec rest
10 reps

then stretch the calfs out on a step for a count of 20 then do 20 unweighted raises then stretch out again for a count of 20......do this once a week on say a monday then on a thursday do 5 straight sets on any exercise..

give this a go for a month and let us know how you get on...

That sounds like a nice work out.. Gonna burn those calves into growth! Cheers Paul! I'm competing next year as you may have read and would really appreciate any help you could give me..
