| Re: IOC pressuring UK to criminalize personal use of steroids
Nice article mate.
Tbh this is a point I belive will come up in the run up to the games.
I really appreciated when the UK goverment basically said "sod it" to the US when asked to join in "Raw Deal", that was a sensible answer as if to say we got way bigger problem than that, even now this goverment thinks wasting money and manpower on an issue that is not an issue is pointless, so well done.
But what is gonna happen when the pressure will come from the WADA through IOC?
There's a lot of money at stake there and reputation as well, even China at the end had to bow and change their rules.
A good point to object would be that UK Athletics is the only federation that actually enforces a LIFE ban for all positive athletes and also that not many UK athlets have been found positive in the last few years despite the UK ruling being different from US and rest of the world where steroids are criminalised!
What is gonna happen if they bow and oblige? Nobody can say for sure, when the US asked for steroids to be criminalised they meant to be equal to a class A drug, this won't stop ppl from using like it doesn't stop ppl from using heroin, cocaine and the lot. Maybe it will reduce recrational gym goers from using as it won't be worth the hassle but competitive BBers will still use, prices will go up and gear will become less available but they won't get rid of it.
Question is: can the goverment afford to embark on another lost cause especially one that causes no harm to anyone?
