Many that I know don't use them for their normal weekly training.

You don't really know how strong their core stomach muscle are if they're always use a belt to create a hard core rather than using their abs.

By all means there may be a benefit for using them when doing an extreme lift (like on the day of a comp) but really there is little need for the overuse of them that currently exists in most gyms, so many even wear belts for biceps curls.
