I have heard you can build more capillaries too but I believe you can also build more fibres. It is a bit of a theory but Hyperplasia is the splitting of muscle fibres along their length resulting in two fibres being created where there was one. Don't know if this reverses with detraining. Hypertrophy is the enlargement of an individual fibre and is more common.
