Cycling for fat loss

Hi, I've been a member for a long time and read most of the posts but this is the 1st time I've written anything.

I'm currently happy with my size but am looking to lose fat to increase definition. Until now I've been cycling a 10 mile circuit I made up around my area of London, I do that 4 times a week and it usually takes 50 minutes to complete.

Based on what I've read on this forum I've been doing it on an empty stomach when I wake up but after speaking to a friend who has been tr
aining alot longer than me and knows alot more I'm worried I shouldn't be doing this, he said "eat first for weight loss and weight gain. you cannot burn enough fat on an empty stomach, it doesn't work like that. you have to eat to have energy to burn fat. you can't just not eat and run or the weight you lose will come back. have oats first thing then cycle and then protein shake and a banana"

He also said to always take a banana for after your workout as well as it will be used as quick energy and it will also create an insulin spike and make the protein assimilation more effective.

Sounds logical, what do you guys think? Thanks for any help
