1- its called suicide grip

in the past yr only i saw 2 peps dropping the bar on themselves while using that grip (and i rarely spend more than 6hr a week in gym), also, it does not decrease pressure on the wrist, keeping the bar in "safe" position with this grip will increase that pressure, along with strain on forearm muscles/tendons
2- depends how active is your day out of the gym, imo, but
