You don't need to be training for strength to get stronger but that's not to say you couldn't be getting stronger with a better program, I'd say what you're doing now looks like a trade-off which isn't what you really want to be doing. If I were training for rugby I'd probably go for either a high set, low rep program or that westside one which works on explosive movement also.
