The trades in the Army are above the standard of the civy equivalent. And as for getting courses thats down to the individual to get himself on the courses, nobody else is going to do it for you. Everyone has £140 per year learning credits and if you have been in a few years advanced learning credits £6000 over a 3 year period (which you can still use when you leave the Army). On top of that every station has a learndirect centre with heavily subsidised courses. I am currently looking at an open degree course which wont cost me a penny.
