Thank you for your enquiry. The answer to your question is yes......and no! Udo's Choice Ultimate Oil Blend is a blend of cold-pressed, organic seed, oils rich in Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs), and EFAs have a unique role to play in healthy weight management. EFAs obviously do have a calorific value, but the body has many other uses for them that are prioritised before burning them for fuel (or, indeed, laying them down as body fat), and they include the following:
EFAs are used to construct the phospho-lipid membrane that surrounds every cell in the body; this membrane controls the flow of oxygen and nutrients into the cell, and waste and toxins out of the cell - when it is properly constructed and functioning optimally, every cell in the body can fire on all cylinders, so to speak.
EFAs are used by the body to produce anti-inflammatory prostaglandins (micro-hormonal systems) that can reduce the inflammation and water retention that often forms a substantial proportion of excess weight.
EFAs consumed with food slow the gastric emptying time, which reduces the rate at which digested food passes into the small intestine for absorption. This reduces the glycaemic index of a meal, impacting positively on blood sugar regulation and body-fat storage.
EFAs operate in the body to 'switch on' fat burning genes and 'switch off' or down-modulate fat storing genes, thus encouraging a higher proportion of lean mass.
EFAs are used by the body to make brain tissue as well as the myelin sheath that is wrapped around every major nerve - the myelin sheath supports the transfer of nerve impulses up and down the nervous system. The outcome of this is that ensuring an adequate supply of EFAs lifts mood, and supports the emotional and mental determination that the effective dieter needs! Also, emotionally and mentally driven food cravings also reduce
EFAs have been trialled with athletes and produce increased stamina and reduced recovery times, so helped magnify the benefits of the exercise regime that is a vital part of a weight management programme.

To summarise, then, EFAs support the oxygenation and detoxification of every cell in the body, reduce inflammation and water retention, improve blood sugar regulation, lift mood and reduce cravings, promote fat burning and discourage fat storage, and improve stamina. The amount of EFAs consumed is important, and generally more than most people consume. Udo recommends 1 x 15ml tablespoon per 50lb/25kg of body weight, consumed with food and split between all three meals. The addition of a good quality multivitamin/multimineral and an antioxidant supplement would ensure a reliable supply of the nutrtional co-factors required to make the most of the EFAs consumed.

I hope the above is both comprehensible and useful - please do not hesitate to come back to me if I can be of any further assistance.

With regards,

Melanie Mascall

Hope this helps Kaz

Cheers.
EPA and DHA oil are 180/120 per gram of fish oil as you buy it, therefore 6 caps gives you 1800mg, 7 caps 2100

omega 3 and EPA/DHA do differ though, but thats not required to know about for this
