| Re: Dealing With Allergies Hello,
I am new to this forum, so just hope I do this right first time!
I have also recently found out that I am allergic to wheat , some gluten and some dairy. Trouble is , I had to put up with uncomfortable symptoms for over three years before we found out what it was! Stomach problems, fat deposits that would not shift, bloating and arthritis pain in my wrists.
I only found out when I started a food diary and alarm bells rang that I got the problems when I ate certain things. Took the diary to my Doc and started there! I have now had six weeks free of wheat and oats, my main problems, and have stopped taking milk and yoghurt. I am fine with cheese, which solves afew problems.
Check any protein shake you take for wheat products! Many have them as fillers. Look up wheat allergy and dairy intolerance online for loads of info and recipes. They even have lists of "Safe"foods that you can shop for.
I recently returned to female bodybuilding after a gap of 20+ years, at the age of 52. Even with a wheat/dairy allergy I have made amazing gains in muscle. I wanted to look slimmer, with less fat, but with lots of muscle. Not easy for a female at the best of times.
I eat top quality protein, as much as I can manage to eat in a day. I have wheat free protein shakes that I found online. I am okay with whey, only problem is normal cows milk and yoghurts (which often contain lots of wheat products!). I found having no bread/pasta /cereal hard at first, and most snacks are out. Rice flakes are fine for me as are rice cakes . Lots of fruit and veg. I also have sweet potatoes and baked potatoes for starch. Let us know how you get on! By the way, look at all labels, things such as stock cubes and fruit juice often have high levels of wheat products in them!! |
