dandies.... before my time.. think the expression was tarts in the 70's. My dad still thinks anyone who does more than comb his hair and put on a bit of aftershave is a poof... mind you, in cyprus is was just not the done thing to be homosexual.. men were men, women were one step up from servants.. and anything else was there to be ridiculed....
he still has loads of expressions that he uses... my favourite one is 'for you I sleep without shoes' when he wants to show appreciation to my mum.... my missus nearly killed me when i said it to her....
