| Re: Shin Splints I've suffered with shin splints for a while now, I used to run competitively for years then whilst I was training for a duathlon in 2006 I started getting incredible pains in my shins.
I trained through it for about a week but had to give up because the pain was just too bad and have never been able to run or jog for any great deal of time since then.
You can gradually re-introduce training after a while but if you continue to train through it, believe me it will get worse.
My doctor offered me local injections of ibuprofen to stop the pain but to be honest the best thing you can do is rest it.
There are some strengthening exercises you can do for your shins. Sit on the edge of a bench and hold the edge of a weight plate on you toes, raise the plate up using the strength in your shins (dorsiflexion) and relax down. Repeat for 3 sets of 8-12 reps.
Hope this helps mate, know how you feel! |
