Not to sure if it can be prevented but id think no.....
I just make sure i use an exfoliator with tea tree oil body wash when i shower in the AM and after the gym.. This is very good in battling oily skin...
Washing regularly does help but im yet to find anything that stops spots completely... I am prone to them also...
