Re: Herniated disc ( pics inside )

i had a discectomy l4/5 privately in oct 2006. i have never really recoverd .i wish i had found the surgeon i am now seeing before i had the first op . i had an open procedure and was told 6 weeks to recover.4 months later i was still really struggling and not back at work.up to date mri 2 months after surgery has showed that the disc is still trapping the nerve and now i have upper back ache due to my posture guarding the original injury.i also dropped from 15st 5 to 13 st as i was told i was carrying too much muscle bulk .doing this has not really helped either.
the surgeon i am seeing now is martin knight of the "spinal foundation " he wants to re do the op but to use a laser to weld the disc hole shut and burn off the protrusion. if you do not use the laser you will always have a weak spot in the disc.
i had tried all the muscle balance physio an accupuncture but as long as that nerve is trapped you are gonna be in pain.
i still manage to train but no where near like what i used to .i find stretching good but there is a fine line between just enough and too much.if you have fully healed from the injury then i know friends who have gone back doing exactly what they were doing before they were injured.everybody is an individual case so listen to your body.the operation im gonna have done is in france and can only be funded privately and medical insurance will not cover it .
if you need any advice feel free to contact me.
