Anyway... my bro had a pretty big bit of cartilidge removed from his knee 2 years ago, and recovered really quickly. He had physio straight after the op tho. If I were you I would def head to the physio just to get it checked out, they'll be able to spot any problems and give you specific exercises to strengthen the are.

I'd agree with u on that ^... best get it checked out by a physio... as by taking someone elses advice that doesnt know the real cause of the prob might end up making things worse.. hope u get it sorted as knee probs can leave u in a lot of pain when they want to! in the mean time.. wear a support if it helps.
