| Re: Cardio I mix up my cardio.
On days when Im doing weights, I sometimes end the session with a 10min HIIT.
For that, I will use the rower or the cross trainer. That would be 1min gentle, 1min hard as I can, 1m gentle and so on. When I do this on the cross trainer (and so have no choice but to hold the heart rate monitor) my BMP goes up to 160 and then down to 145 and back to 160 and so on. For me (bare in mind age has an effect here) that is about 80 - 90%.
If I do a cardio day and no weights, I do 30mins at the moment in the gym. 10 mins step machine (I go hill walking so I do this intentionally), 10 min cross and 10 min treadmill. When I increase this soon to 40min Ill add 10min rower. I do these though at around 65-70% which for me is around 120-125 BPM. When I use the crosstrainer and stepper the hand grips help me keep the BPM on target. The rower and tread dont have these (or do but cant hold em while using the machine, not without looking like a gimp anyway!) so I try to judge it myself.
Other days, more so as the mornings and nights get lighter, I go for a run in my local park. I dont monitor my HR at the moment, but just call it a gentle jog. Takes me about 30mins at the moment but am looking to up that to 45min by tweaking my route.
