For isolation,they're probably the best exercise for the tricep.
I wouldn't recommend every week but maybe more once a month for that variation thing.
I usually do them and then do dips afterwards with bodyweight+up to 40kg on the belt.(150kg total).
I certainly wouldn't totally dismiss kickbacks although i would dismiss pushdowns.
