Don't bother with isolate, it's designed for super fast absorbtion into the body. Only of any real benefit for very advanced athletes.
If you are looking to just have a shake between your regular meals to provide extra nutrients, look for a MRP (meal replacement pack) product, whey protien is jsut that; protien... You need carbs and vits/nutes which a propper MRP will provide.
Alternatively you can make your on with a blender... some fruit, whey protien, egg, cottage cheese, oats, natural yogurt (take your pick as long as you get carbs, protien and fats don't be too worried at this stage)
If however it's just for post workout nutrition, you would want a shake with some sort of simple carbs (sugars) and protien. The simple carbs help to spike insulin which in turn helps to shuttle the protien to your muscle tissue (or something like that).
