I would definitely see a physio to establish which muscle you have injured,its probably the supraspinatus as this is by far the most easily damaged due to pushing movements.

As IK has said,agood physio will give you a selection of rehab exercises that can be performed in the gym or at home.

Unfortunately the best cure for this type of injury is rest and patience,however there are things that can be done to speed this up.

Supplement with Glucosamine and fish oils,apply ibuprofen gel to the site morning and night and at every available opportunity apply a heat source to encourage blood flow(i used a microwavable wheat bag)

As for the cortisone,this can be effective but it all depends on the severity of the damage to the muscle/tendon as it will reduce inflammation and pain but will not repair a tear or similar.

IMO cortisone tends to mask the injury and put you in a false sense of security that the injury is rectified and training can resume.
