| Re: ankle/shin/calf while running Hi there, getting proper runners is key to the first step of over comming this problem, however shin splints can occur from your running style. the pain you feel can either be a build up of pressure in a muscle caused by excercise or increases in excercise to a previously less frequently used muscle, tendon inflamation or damage to the bone itself.
most common advise you will receive from your gp is rest up for 7-14days...however if this shin splint pain is down to your actual running style this pain will occur again next time you start a course of excercise....I would then plump for the podiatrist who analyse the way your walk run and sprint and the asscoiated impact area...they should be able to knock you up an insole personally tailored to your need by taking an impression of your foot.
last friend of mine who had this done said the difference was noticeable and was very pleased, he was given a course of stretches for pre and post workout and strengthening excercises too total cost was about £159 private through Dave Macellans physio in Exeter, physio to Exeter Chiefs Rugby Club. |
