Yes, do whatever you can handle or recover from.
If you wanted to be in the gym 3-4x/week, you could always split up the routine, do less volume per session, or reduce the intensity per session in order to allow you to recover.
Your best bet is to just pick a routine (which you've done), try it and see how you get on. If you do well on it, stick to it until you stall, if you don't do so well on it, try something different. It's all about experimentation. Don't worry about what other people are doing - just work to your own abilities.
