I know, you know when you hear clanging there is absolutely no control there.

Sorry i should have cleared up my thoughts on this, as it comes second nature to me now.

But whenever your doing dumbell presses you should really take advantage of squeezing your pecs at the top of the contraction. This is why they are never relaxed during a set as tension is constantly on.

Bringing them together at the top for me is about showing control, they dont even have to touch but skim. Bringing them in as close as possible without the dredded 'clanging' onto of the added stress of you squeezing your pecs makes dumbells one of the best chest building excercises we have.

Again appologies for not clearing my thoughts sooner, i just naturally assumed everyone kept tension at all times by squeezing at the top of the positive part of the excercise.

If you dont, you will be surprised at how much more pumped you will be at the end of your sets, and with it in time the added growth from your chest.
