Salt is important to the cell's membrane permability so yes it is good to consume good quality salt.
I need to drink more H2O is the bottom line for me. It really is.
My body tells me I'm thirsty and I don't listen. Water is so blah to me.

You will also like macrobiotics in that they don't recommend drinking loads of water!
Tea, bancha tea in particular is ok, and occasional barley malt type drinks. The premise is that one should take in most of their fluids in their foods! It is SO about balance, and even temperature can have an effect, cold in contracting or YANG, like salt.
They do a lot of soups, miso figures strongly.
Ok, my trick with water as I am not a big water drinker either.
4-6 herbal tea bags in 2 L of water, let it steep, if you want it sweet (I never do find the herbal teas I use sweet enough) add Splenda.

Super concentrated green tea is good, and I think helps with dehydration too
Caffeine is NOT all that bad for you really, see paper after paper after paper in the British Medical Journal where all the implications for kidney and stomach problems are proven to be unfounded. In fact, most say that 1-2 cups increases alertness and performance.
It is ONE OF THE BEST FAT BURNERS. It does this by blocking one of the feedback enzymes (cyclic AMP cascade) in the glycogen release. Keeps the pathway open, so glycogen will continue to be used. Once the glycogen is gone, fat is more readily used as fuel!
